When the Body Moves - Sermon Blog
We’ve been in this series called We Are the Body, and I’ve loved seeing how it’s challenging and encouraging our church. Because here’s the truth: We’re one body with one purpose.
That means when one part moves, we all move. When one part grows numb, the whole body feels it.
A Healthy Body Moves
Ever had your leg or foot fall asleep? You stand up, and it feels like pins and needles.
It’s annoying, but it’s your body’s way of saying, “Hey, something’s not working right.”
That same thing can happen to the church.
When we stop moving, stop serving, stop living on mission, the body goes numb.
But when we move, when we serve, when we use our gifts life starts flowing again.
Jesus Didn’t Save You to Sit
He didn’t save you just to attend a service.
He called you to a mission.
In Matthew 28, right before Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave the disciples one clear command:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… and teaching them to obey everything I’ve commanded you.”
That wasn’t just for pastors.
That was for every believer, then and now.
You have a purpose.
You have a mission.
You have a part to play in what God is doing.
“Go” Means As You’re Going
When Jesus said “Go,” He wasn’t talking about a trip or an event.
He meant “as you are going.”
As you go to work.
As you go to school.
As you go to the gym.
As you go to the grocery store.
It’s not about where you go, it’s about how you live while you’re going.
Discipleship isn’t a title you carry. It’s a lifestyle you choose.
You don’t need a microphone to make a difference.
You just need obedience.
Baptism Is About Identity
Jesus said, “Baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
That’s not just a ritual, it’s a declaration of identity.
It says, “I belong to Jesus now.”
Baptism marks the moment where faith becomes family.
You don’t just believe, you belong.
That’s why we celebrate it. Because it’s not just someone getting wet, it’s someone saying, “My life has changed.”
Teaching Is About Repetition
Then Jesus says, “Teach them to obey.”
That word “teach” is about repetition.
It’s about doing life together; learning, growing, and following Jesus side by side.
You don’t have to know everything to disciple someone.
You just share what you know.
And the more you share, the more it becomes part of who you are.
It’s not a class. It’s not a one-time thing.
It’s a way of life.
The Church Moves Together
I had a student run across the room during service. (Don’t worry—it was planned!)
He didn’t leave his arm behind. His whole body moved together.
That’s what a healthy church looks like.
Every part, every person, moving in the same direction, with the same purpose.
When we do, life flows through the church.
People are reached.
Disciples are made.
And Jesus is glorified.
The Power to Move
Acts 1:8 says,
“You will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be My witnesses…”
You don’t do this alone.
You don’t have to have all the answers.
The Holy Spirit gives you the power to go, to baptize, to teach, and to love people right where you are.
Start Where You Are
Your Jerusalem is your home; your family, your kids, your closest circle.
Your Judea is your community; Pea Ridge, Bentonville, Rogers.
Your Samaria is the people who are different from you; the ones who think, vote, or live another way.
And the ends of the earth? That’s everyone, everywhere.
You don’t need to start somewhere far away.
Just start where you are.
The Bottom Line
When the body moves, life flows.
When the church lives on mission, people find Jesus.
When we stop sitting and start serving, the gospel moves through us.
So this week, let’s move.
Let’s serve.
Let’s love.
Let’s disciple.
Because Jesus didn’t save you to sit still.
He saved you so the world could see Him move through you.
